Our 6 days Bwindi Gorillas and Nyiragongo hike takes you to major tourist attractions in Uganda to adventure the major primates in their natural habitat in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. You will visit Virunga National Park to hike Mount Nyiragongo for memorable safari experience in East Africa.
As you land at Kigali International Airport for your Uganda Gorilla trekking, Great Adventure Safaris driver / guide will be waiting to welcome you into Rwanda and show you around Kigali city with a visit to the Crafts village, the local market and the Genocide memorial site depending on your arrival time.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and embark on the transfer to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park driving northwest of Kigali and cross into Uganda and proceed to Bwindi Forest arriving in the evening.
Wake up to a tasty breakfast in the biting coldness of Bwindi Forest. Enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee, grab your packed lunch and head out to the pack headquarters – just a short distance from the lodge. Here, you will receive briefing about the dos and don’ts of Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Forest, know which Gorilla family you will be visiting and set off with your ranger guide.
Enter the forest in search of the Mountain Gorillas and upon finding them, you will be allowed to spend up to a maximum of hour with them. After the trek, meet your driver / guide and transfer back to the lodge where you will relax.
Have breakfast in the misty Bwindi Forest with beautiful views from the lodge and make an early start on your journey and transfer back to Rwanda. On a clear day, you will catch sights of the lovely terraced hills of Kisoro town, rice gardens in Rwanda and intriguing stretch of Bamboo. Arrive in Gisenyi town in the late afternoon.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kibati patrol post where the hiking activity starts. Don’t forget to carry a rain jacket, thick clothes, a torch and water for drinking on the way. The hike takes 4-6 hours to arrive at the summit. The wonderful large lava lake on top of the active Nyiragongo volcano is one of the magical attractions of Virunga. Meals and overnight will be had at Nyiragongo summit shelters located on the rim of the caldera.
You will wake up early and set off back to Kibati where you’ll find the driver and leave the park for Gisenyi town. Depending on the time of arrival at Kibati, you may have lunch en-route or at Gisenyi at your lodge. Check in at Lake Kivu Serana Hotel, Paradis Malahide, Gorillas Lake Kivu or Palm Garden. You will relax at one of these before embarking on the journey back home.
Enjoy your delicious breakfast and check out. Set off for Kigali where you may do a brief city tour depending on the time of your flight. You’ll thereafter be dropped at the airport or any other planned place.
