Mountain gorilla trekking
The Mountain Gorillas are among Uganda’s top tourist attractions. While trekking these great Apes, the experience and excitement you encounter while with them is really worthwhile. Tracking mountain gorillas in Bwindi Forest can be conducted all year round. Most gorilla trekkers prefer visiting the mountain gorillas from June to September as well as from December up to February. You can visit Bwindi at any time of the year, the low season calls for cheaper gorilla permit price but generally there is slight difference in the seasons.
Gorilla habituation experience.
Besides the popular gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi, the Uganda Wildlife Authority introduced gorilla habituation since January 2014. This activity can only be done in Bwindi Forest! Gorilla habituation experience is not available in the other sections of Virunga Conservation Area including Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National Park- Rwanda and Virunga National Park in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Gorilla habituation is done all year round in Bwindi forest as well as booking for its permits, however, we recommend early bookings. A single habituation permit goes for 1,500 US dollars per person inclusive of park entry fees. Once you’ve booked your permit, you are guaranteed to spend four hours with gorillas contrary to one hour gorilla trekking encounter.
Batwa cultural experience.
Activities and things to do in Nkuringo gorilla sector – The Batwa cultural experience was put in place by the displaced Batwa pygmies to educate their children and to share their amazing heritage and traditions with the world. The Experience takes place outside of the park in an old-growth forest on land that is next to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park. The Batwa experience begins with a nature-walk, hike through the forest so as to see the forest in a new way, through the eyes of the original people of the Forest. Learn how they hunted the small animals they used for food, what things they gathered, how traps and nets were used.
The Batwa Experience will also show you how they lived in huts made of grass, trees, the use of tree-houses and caves. Experience the Batwa village life of olden days, the sharing, of living as a community, as a people, learn the things that they revered and cared for and almost lost.
Embarking on the Batwa experience exposes you to hiking in the forest with the people of the forest with the help of a Batwa guide and he will provide you with the chance to see the forest and its habitats through their eyes.
See how they lived and hunted in the traditional manner. Enjoy trying out your hunting techniques as the Batwa teach you how to shoot with a bow and arrow.
Visit a traditional Batwa homestead and learn from the women how to prepare, cook and serve a meal. You will also have the opportunity to sample the prepared dishes.
Bird watching.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one of the best birding destinations in Africa. There are 348 bird species that have been recorded at Bwindi. They include 25 restricted-range species, of which 23 are confined to the Albertine Rift and four are globally threatened: African Green Broadbill, Grauer’s Rush Warbler -Bradypterus graueri; Endangered, Chapin’s Flycatcher -Muscicapa lendu; Vulnerable and Shelley’s Crimson-wing -Cryptospiza Shelley- Vulnerable.
Camping.
Connect with nature while in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and enjoy nature at its best. Please note there are no camping grounds inside the park. Camping is done at selected safari lodges that offer camping grounds in Bwindi.
Why Go Camping in Nkuringo gorilla sector

Hiking and trekking Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.
Besides gorilla trekking, Bwindi offers yet another interesting activity-hiking/nature walks where tourists can get to explore several attractions in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The hiking is normally from the north of Bwindi to the South. You can have an overnight stay and continue the next day down to Lake Mutanda where you paddle across in a wooden dugout and continue to the town of Kisoro. A boat ride is also possible at Lake Mutanda. The hiking time ranges from 5 to 9 hours or less.
Nature walks.
Bwindi has more to offer then just gorilla tracking. Besides the popular adventures such as mountain gorilla trekking, birding and trekking or hiking, you can actually enjoy fascinating nature walks when you visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
There are five different day-trails, ranging from 1 to 8 hours offering the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the forest and to see several different monkey species. For birders, roughly 190 bird species have been recorded in this area, ten of which are either listed in the Red Data Book or else endemic to the Albertine Rift.
Community walks.
During your visit, you will visit the local Batwa community who live in Bwindi Impenetrable forest. These people are natives of this forest. At a time, they tried to bring them out of the forest and eventually this was done. The Batwa have built up a spot where they show how they used to live in the forest. At this spot, they demonstrate their traditional dances, huts, fire making and hunting technique which is too interesting to hear.
