Best region for gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable forest National Park is a home to over 400 mountain gorillas. basing on the size of the forest, it was divided into four sectors for gorilla trekking namely, Ruhija sector, Buhoma sector, Rushaga sector, and Nkuringo sector, each sector has habituated gorilla families ready and open for gorilla trekking, each sector has advantages and disadvantages but in this article we are trying to compare and see which sector is the best region for gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest. Still our argument remains that whichever region you choose gorilla trekking experience is the same as the same procedures are followed.

Best region for gorilla safaris in Bwindi forest.

In terms of accessibility by road, the best region for a gorilla safari is Ruhija sector in the eastern part of Bwindi forest. The road from Entebbe to Kabale is tarmacked and in a very good condition hence the drive time is less as compared to other sector of Rushaga, Ruhija, Buhoma and Nkuringo. The negative thing about ruhija sector is that it does not have an airstrip  that is near for those that fly in to Bwindi impenetrable National park. The best regions for fly in safaris are buhoma because of the Kihihi airstrip,, 1 hours’ drive to Buhoma, Rushaga and Nkuringo regions because of Kisoro airstrip  but the flights here only operate in the morning due to winds and weather conditions in the southern part of Bwindi forest.

In terms of gorilla families, Rushaga region is the best for gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest due to the fact that it has more gorilla families and gorilla permits as compare to any other region. Rushaga has 8 habituated gorilla families followed by Buhoma and Ruhija with 5 gorilla families in each region and therefore Rushaga is the best for gorilla trekking.

In terms of accommodation and lodges, Buhoma sector can be regarded as the best region for gorilla trekking in Bwindi, followed by Rushag side, Buhoma has many popular lodges like Mahogany springs, Gorilla forest Camp, Buhoma Lodge, Silver back Lode that offer wonderful services and well maintained, and many other budget lodges and in Ruashaga there is Rushaga gorilla camp, Ichumbi gorilla ldoge and Foru gorillas lodge with good service and other regions have lodges, so a tourist can make choices.

To most tourists, Buhoma region is said to be the best region for gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest, as this is where gorilla trekking started from in 1993 when mubare gorilla family was opened to tourists for trekking, and later on other trail heads and regions were opened to tourists but still Buhoma remains the best when it comes to accommodation, Batwa experience and community interactions.
