Bigodi wetland community walk-Bigodi wetland is a community based organization which started with a view of uplifting the status and lifestyle of the lower class families of Bigodi village and other communities around. In 2016 is when it started and with four people who trained with Kibale Association for Rural and Environmental Development, found a loop and unauthenticated community walk and derived means, making it more authentic giving scholastic materials, improving households and providing employment to the community guides and demonstrators.
Bigodi wetland Community Walk (BICOWA) is located in six (6) kilometers from Kibale Forest National Park which is thirty (30) kilometers from Fort Portal town.
In visiting the Bigodi community you are supporting the community directly and through this it teaches them not to encroach on the protected area encouraging them to conserve for the nearest home of the Chimpanzees the Kibale Forest National Park.
This community based organization offers you opportunities to see six different species of Primates during your walk and over 160 bird species, butterflies, and so many more.
Food preparation is one of the experiences you will enjoy; take a chance to prepare food from the garden with different types of food crops as you get explanation from a local guide up to when it is ready to serve.
While on this tour you will hike to the top of Kaikusa hill and meet the women weaving baskets. They explain the process on how to get materials from the swamp around and how they make traditional colours from different plants. Every woman in the community is free to join as long as she meets terms and conditions of the group.
Many years ago there were no hospitals in Africa, visit this community and see one of the surviving medicine man who treats the community using various plants and weeds. He treats malaria, snake bites and many more.
