The dry season between the months of May, June, July, August, September, early October, December, and January is, however, the best time to visit Gorillas when forest grounds are less slippery and not muddy. The low season of February, March, April, and November has its own advantages where some accommodation facilities normally give discounted room rates during the low season hence the best time to travel for budget travelers. However, mountain Gorillas can be visited at any time of the year.
Gorilla permit prices vary from country to country. Rwanda Gorilla permits cost USD1500 per person per trek and Uganda Gorilla permit cost USD600 for foreign non-residents, USD500 for foreign residents and UGX250,000 for East African residents per person per trek as of now. Kindly note that with effect from 1st-July-2020 Uganda Gorilla permits will be increased to USD700 per person per trek for foreign non-residents and USD600 for foreign residents per person per trek.
Gorilla permit booking should be at least 3-4 months in advance. The high demand for Gorilla permits require travelers to book as early as possible and secure them in time. Last time bookings stand limited chances of accessing Uganda Gorilla permits because of the low price compared to that of Rwanda.
Gorilla adventure safaris in Uganda-Rwanda, The age limit is fifteen (15) years in all Gorilla trekking destinations. Each traveler below the age of fifteen (15) years is not allowed to trek the mountain Gorillas despite his/her physical appearance and capabilities. Age limit is put to ensure safety of travelers and the mountain Gorillas in the jungle. However, if a child is almost making 15 years, his/her parent can sign an agreement as fully responsible for anything that may happen to the child during the trekking time. The letter is written and signed by the parent and then submitted to the Uganda Wildlife Authority or Rwanda Development Board for confirmation.
Gorilla Habituation Experience allows you a four (4) hours experience along with researchers and the park rangers in the presence of the mountain Gorillas. Visitors are limited to four (4) persons which enhances the experience. A visitor is not a mere observer but an active participant in the habituation process. It is only in Rushaga the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park that a Gorilla Habituation Experience is done. A Gorilla habituation experience permit costs USD1500 per person per trek.
