Once you meet the mountain Gorillas in the natural habitat, you are allowed to stay in a distance of 7 meters from the magnificent giants but since mountain gorillas are wild animals, for them they do not know the do’s and don’ts, they can easily come close to you even a touch on you mostly babies do this.

Please note, always remember to let your driver/guide know of your weakness before the actual day of gorilla trekking, this will help him get for you a suitable gorilla trekking family, this is something you arrange with your guide on ground, office has no effect of this.on the day of trekking you transfer to park offices for briefing about the do’s and don’ts when you start the trek and when you meet the giants in the forest. It starts at 0800am and is runs for 30 minutes though sometimes it goes beyond, it all about precaution measures, and after you are divided in groups of eight per gorilla family, allocation of gorilla families depends on the client’s age, physical fitness and interests. So your guide can help you choose a family that best suits your interests and they you start the trek in to the forest.
Gorilla trekking experience/activity is an exercise that is strenuous and prior physical mercies is advised, so we always recommend our client’s to hire porter to help him/her carry a backpacker, give you a pull or push during the hike and always carry a walking stick to give you support hen hiking or slopping down the hills with in the forest.
The experience involves hiking up and down in the dense forest and sometime your ranger guides makes fresh trails in search of the mountain gorillas, the activity can take from 30 minutes to three quarters of the day depending on where the Gorillas are that very day you are tacking them in the forest. Some gorilla families habit in high altitude of about 2000-3000, this is the challenging part of it but mountain gorillas are always on the move due to various factors like food, shelter, fights and others so looking for them may become a challenge while in the forest but the chances of seeing them are 97%.
Even if the hike takes several hours, you are allowed only one hour to be in meters with these giants primates, and this hour starts to count immediately after you meet the gorillas, then you will have your packed lunch and hike back to the starting point, therefore you are advised to be steady to utilize the one hour you have with face to face encounter with the mountain gorillas.
