Budget travel in Uganda as compared with many other safari destinations in Africa is one of the affordable and cheap safari destinations to travel to. If you are a budget sensitive traveller and you want to save money on lodging on your safari holiday in Uganda, choose to stay at hostels and campsites outside of the wildlife protected areas and the National Parks.
For transportation, the most affordable way to travel is with public transport on buses and minibus taxis, although it is difficult to reach the more remote national park areas on public transport and we as Great Adventure Safaris do not recommend public transport for our clients. We instead plan with you and depending on how much you wish to spend we organise for you a private vehicle on your safari.
If you are travelling to Uganda on a tight budget then you may not want to spend USD700 on a Gorilla tracking permit. Chimpanzee tracking is much cheaper but note that permits vary hugely in price depending on which reserve you wish to trek them. In Kalinzu Forest it’s USD50 per person per trek, while it is USD200 per person per trek at Kibale Forest. There are plenty of other pocket-friendly activities to do in the country’s parks and reserves, depending on your interests and time.
Local restaurants are your best bet for good-value meals a plate of beef stew with sides will cost around USD5. You can also cook for yourself if you are staying at a campsite or self-catering lodging by buying food at markets and supermarkets.
If you travel during the low season months of April, May, October and November, you will be able to pick up discounted rates on lodging and some other discounts since there will be less travellers during this period of time.
From Europe and North America you can fly to Entebbe International Airport in Uganda either via the African cities of Addis Ababa, Kigali or Nairobi or via the Middle East, going through Dubai or Doha.
