Camping safaris to see wildebeest migration – The African wildebeest migration is a 3000km plus journey that Zebras and wildebeests along with other mammals take to search for a land with lush grazing land and access to water. When Masai Mara National Reserve becomes dry, these mammals have to migrate to Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. After a few months, they migrate back to Masai Mara. This journey has so many challenges and some animals die along the way because of fatigue before they can even make it to the hardest part of crossing over a crocodile and hippopotamus infested river to the Serengeti side. January to early March are considered to be the calving period. Tens of thousands of wildebeests are born during this period. So if you want to see the actual migration then you ought to visit Masai Mara between July to October. The calving experience can best be seen from Serengeti National Park in January and February.
