Chimpanzee tracking in Rwanda – Nyungwe Forest National Park is the only park where you can trek habituated Chimpanzee communities in Rwanda. Approximately 500 Chimpanzees live in Nyungwe Forest National Park. The National park is surely one of the most beautiful and pristine mountain block rainforests, which is extremely rich, unique and remarkable. Nyungwe Forest National Park stretches at an altitude ranging between 1600 and 2900meters and shelters complex mosaic types of vegetation.

Chimpanzee tracking permits in Nyungwe Forest National Park cost USD90 for foreign non-residents per person while permits for foreign residents cost USD60, for a trek which usually takes one hour.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is located in south-west of remarkable Rwanda, at an elevation of over 1600metres above sea level. The National park is a home 12 different primate species namely Chimpanzee, L’Host monkey, Ruwenzori black and white colobus, vervet monkey, acrobatic Angola colobus, red-tailed monkey among others. At least 300 bird species, more than 16 bird species are endemic to Albertine Rift namely red-faced woodland warbler, Rwenzori apalis, purple breasted sunbird, Yellow eyed black flycatcher, Rwenzori batis, grauer’s warbler among others.

Getting there
