Filming in the Buhoma region – If you are planning to film Mountain Gorillas in Uganda, the Buhoma region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the four Gorilla tracking regions which you can think about. Buhoma region is located in the northern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Buhoma region found in Kanungu district south-western Uganda is popular for filming Mountain Gorillas because it was the first region where Mountain Gorilla trekking or viewing started in 1993 when the Mubare Gorilla family was opened up for Gorilla trekking. Since then so many Gorilla families have been habituated and can be filmed by anyone with permission.
If you are intending to film Mountain Gorillas in the Buhoma region you have to acquire Gorilla permits. Just like any other region, Buhoma Mountain Gorilla permits cost USD700 and are booked at Uganda Wildlife Authority offices in Uganda. There so many Gorilla families in the Buhoma region including Mubare, Rushegura, Katwe, Muyambi, and Habinyanja Gorilla families.
For you to be allowed to film, you will have to choose any of the above Gorilla families. Once dates are known, we will check availability, reserve them, invoice you, pay, and secure them on your behalf.
Depending on the number of crew members and days, we will go ahead and process your filming contract with Uganda Wildlife Authority. This may take 3-4 working days if all paperwork is provided.
Getting to the Buhoma region of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is easy. You can choose to drive from Entebbe or Kampala to south-western Uganda and it is about 9-10 hours of the scenic drive. Our comfortable safari vehicles will make your journey comfortable.
