The northern and the southern regions have got Airfields where small Aircrafts can land. In the northern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, clients land in Kihihi Airfield and take a one and half hours to drive to Buhoma region or two hours to Ruhija region which is the eastern part of Bwindi forest. In the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable, clients land in Kisoro Airfield and then take a two and half hours to drive to Rushaga or Nkuringo regions.
If you choose to drive, it will take you about 9-10 hours driving from Entebbe or Kampala to Buhoma, Rushaga and Nkuringo regions and 8-9 hours to Ruhija region. The drive from Entebbe or Kampala is very scenic with lots of things to see en-route. These include stopovers at the Equator line, at the Royal drum makers, along Lake Mburo to see the grazing long horned cattle as well as the green rolling hills of Kigezi region with banana and tea plantations.
All flights to either Kihihi or Kisoro Airfields from Entebbe might take up to one hour or more depending on the connections and the routing made. Fly Uganda and Aerolink Uganda are the two main operators of these domestic flights to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park together with other Ugandan National Parks. Aerolink Uganda operates two scheduled flights in the morning and afternoon per day from Entebbe International Airport to Kihihi Airfield sometimes connecting to other National parks. They also operate a per seat rate with a minimum of two people in order to cater for those with lower budget and cannot charter their own aircraft.
Kisoro Airfield is most accessible in the morning due to the strong winds and influence of the volcanic hills in the region.
