When one talks of Gorilla tracking in Uganda, the first thing that’s comes to your mind is the highlight of all the itineraries in Uganda and visiting the Mountain Gorillas in the natural habitat. Gorilla trekking has a second term Gorilla trekking, it is more less the same but trekking is when you track the Gorillas in the hilly/mountainous terrain. Gorilla trekking in Uganda is so flexible and it can be started either from Entebbe/Kampala or Kigali and you still have the same experience with the Gorillas, only that it is a shorter distance from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the drive time is approximately 4-5 hours’ drive.

The minimum number of days you need to do Gorilla trekking in Uganda is 3 days if you start from Kampala/Entebbe because of the drive time which is 8-9 hours’ drive, with 2 days of transfers and 1 day of Gorilla tracking. If you decide to start the trek from Kigali the minimum number of days is 2 days gorilla tour with the first day of transfer nearer to the National Park and the last day of Gorilla trekking and drive back to Kigali. Note if you decide to do a 2 day Gorilla trek from Kigali, you will have to book a late night flight at least at 11;00pm because we cannot guarantee the time you will be back from the forest and Gorillas are wild animals and always on the move looking for food.
The advantages of which side is nice to start from overlaps each other as starting from Kigali is double blessing, it gives you a chance to see two countries at ago and shorter drive times. I would recommend this option if one is on a rush program. But starting from Uganda is a magical experience a well because the 8-9 hours’ drive is a scenic drive with stops at the Equator crossing for photography, visits to Igongo cultural center, the great lakes museum, so it is an experience even before you meet the Gorillas.
