Gorilla trekking tours for Elderly Seniors – Gorilla tours for old people, disability, ages from 60 and above
Gorilla trekking tours for elderly seniors -Mountain gorillas are found on the forested highlands of the Virunga Massif and in Bwindi forest. The Virunga Massif comprises of Mgahinga, Volcanoes and Virunga national parks in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo respectively. Due to their habitats on elevations of highlands, trekking involves hiking. The main gorilla trekking destinations are Uganda (that is in Bwindi Impenetrable national park) and Rwanda (in Volcanoes national park) because they have many gorilla families which are also easy to access. The reason why Mgahinga is not famous for trekking is because the gorillas there sometimes move to distant areas towards Uganda’s border with Rwanda and DR Congo hasn’t well picked up for the activity because of the previous civil unrest.
How can elderly people manage gorilla trekking?
- Multiple gorilla permits
Older travelers are advised to book 2 gorilla permits, this can give them an upper hand to make requests for the easier gorilla group to trek.
- Potters
This are locals from the communities bordering the park, they come to the park every morning to help clients carry their bags and give them a pull or passholder travelers are advised to hire two porters each person. There is also an option of lifting the elderly to and from the gorillas using a comfortable Sedan chair where four people lift you from the starting point to gorillas and then from gorillas back to the starting point.
- Extra days
Older clients are advised to spend a day at the lodge before taking on their first gorilla trek, this will help them adapt to the altitude and go to the park headquarters to inquire the days experience and explaining to the park officials their needs and also relax a day before taking on their second trek.
- Personal experienced private guide
Usually these are guides who are well trained in basic first aid, and have a lot of experience in gorilla trekking they will greatly help create a perfect bond between the guides, porters, security personnel and trackers during the trek. They will also insure proper preparation is taken before gorilla trekking.
- Declaration of medical condition
Here the traveler is required to declare his/her medical record and the contact of the personal doctor, this information will be kept private and only given to the personal private guide.
