Gorilla walking tours and safaris – In Uganda, walking safaris have increasingly become an integral part of any safari people take. Many tourists prefer to combine walking safaris with other activities such as gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, boat cruises and game drives while in Uganda. If you wish to do some walking while in Uganda, the below should give you an idea and let us be the ones to take you there.
You can combine your Uganda safaris with a walking safari in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Great Adventure Safaris operates nature based walking safaris in Bwindi and the most popular ones are located in different trails head of Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija and Nkuringo. These forest walks expose you to the beauty of this forest where you will encounter other primates in this forest such as Black and white Colobus monkeys, wild chimpanzees, birds, butterflies and waterfalls. There walking safari options to the community and one popular trail is the Buhoma Village walk that takes you to community farms to observe their agricultural practices, to a herbalist to establish how herbs are processed to cure some diseases, to a local brewing plant and then a visit to the home of the Batwa (pygmies) who used to stay in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park before it was gazetted as a national Park in early 1990’s.
For the more adventurous and physically fit clients, we recommend the Nkuringo walking safari which starts from either Buhoma in the north or Nkuringo in the south. This walking safari takes you through the forest and lasts 2-3 hours. This trek is good for bird, primate and nature loving clients who prefer to enjoy nature on foot. Please note that it’s better to start from Nkuringo to Buhoma due to the fact that you will be slopping instead of climbing.
Walking safaris are everywhere in Uganda and if in Kibale National Park, you can try out a forest walk in the park for birding and primate identification or join Bigodi wetland walk which was designed to support the local communities around Kibale National Park. No matter where you will be visiting
