How many hours can one spend with Chimpanzees in Kibale forest? – How difficulty in Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda
How many hours can one spend with chimpanzees – Chimpanzee tracking in Uganda is one of the lifetime safari experiences and the Chimpanzee permit you pay for is worth the time you spend with the amazing primates. Uganda offers Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest National Park, Budongo Forest Reserve in Murchison Falls National Park, Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park as well as Kalinzu Forest Reserve.
You will only spend one-hour following, watching, and photographing the Chimpanzees when you find them in their natural habitat. There is also Chimpanzee habituation where you can spend more time with the Chimpanzees. This starts counting when you find the fresh trails of the Chimpanzees and follow them for the rest of the time enjoying and learning more about their behaviors.
These tourist places offer extremely rich biodiversity including different species of mammals, primates, butterflies, and trees. They all have communities of Chimpanzees that have been habituated for eco-tourism purposes. Other primates that can be observed are the Black-and-White colobus monkeys, Olive Baboons, Red-tailed monkeys, and Grey-cheeked mangabeys.
Chimpanzee tracking permits and Chimpanzee habituation permits in Uganda are issued out by the Uganda Wildlife Authority at USD200 and USD250 per person respectively for non-foreign residents. The treks start early morning with a general briefing about the dos and the don’ts at the forest headquarters. After the briefing, you will be grouped in small groups of 6 and be allocated a park ranger who will head you to the forest in search of these amazing primates.
Chimpanzee tracking takes about 2-4 hours depending on the movements of the Chimpanzees and once you find the Chimpanzees you will be allowed to stay with them for one hour watching them resting, eating, grooming each other, and photographing them. On this trek, you will also have an opportunity of viewing other primate species, reptiles, and mammals like the forest Elephants.
