Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda is growing bigger again, which gives any traveler hopes when it comes to planning a Gorilla Tour to Uganda. Rushaga Gorilla Families are now nine which adds on the number of Gorilla permits to 72 permits increasing the chances of travelers meeting Gorillas.
This happened in the Southern sector of Bwindi (RUSHAGA SECTOR) where we have been having eight (8) Gorilla families and now we have nine (9) Gorilla families after one of the groups called Kahunge split to make a new Gorilla family. Kahunge has been known to be the biggest Gorilla family in this sector with twenty four (24) members including four (4) silverbacks Kahunge being the dominant male.
Rushaga gorilla families, One of the silverbacks got misunderstanding with the dominant male which resulted in to a fight and one had to leave the group. Rwigi one of the males who fought Kahunge left the group after a fight and since some members believed in him he moved away with some of them.
Rwigi is now a new Gorilla family after splitting from Kahunge in Rushaga sector and it is named after the name of its silverback and it has ten (10) members. Among the members in Rwigi Gorilla family there is one silverback, five females, two juveniles and two babies.
Rushaga sector in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park can be accessed by road from Kampala the capital city of Uganda or Entebbe where we have our International Airport and it takes you through small towns with stops at the Equator line and a lunch break as it is 9-10 hours’ drive. Rushaga can also be accessed from Kigali the capital of Rwanda by road, this drive is much shorter compared from the one from Kampala or Entebbe. This drive takes you through a scenic drive with the rolling green hills of potatoes and banana plantations and cross the border to Uganda which takes you 5hours to get to Rushaga in Bwindi.
