Obtain a fishing permit in Uganda – Many Anglers will ask themselves if they need a fishing permit to fish on the abundant water bodies of Uganda
Currently, Uganda has 3 premier fishing destinations operation catch and release fishing safaris and those areas include the source of the River Nile in Jinja, Lake Victoria, and the Nile River in Murchison falls

Fishing permits and entrances vary depending on the area you’re fishing in and below is allow you need to know about the fishing permits and licenses for Uganda fishing safaris
- Lake Victoria fishing permits
For Anglers fishing on Lake Victoria do not require a fishing permit however they must book the fishing safari with a licensed boat operator registered by the ministry of fisheries and this will automatically grand fishing permission to the Anglers to fish on Lake Victoria
- Jinja Nile River fishing permits
For Jinja being part of Lake Victoria, the same criteria apply, meaning your fishing rights are owned by the fishing company hence you do not need to buy or possess any fishing license to fish on the River or Lake in Jinja
- Nile River in Murchison falls
Anglers are fishing in Murchison falls are required to obtain two types of licenses, the first one is the entry permit that allows you to enter the national park, and its currently at 40 USD per person per 24 hours and the second one is the fishing permit which is currently 50 USD per person per 24 hours and these permits are payable to the government body under Uganda Wildlife Authority
Do I need to Obtain fishing permits in Advance?
Anglers do not need to obtain fishing permits in advance except booking the fishing boat services in advance as during the high tourism season fishing boats are all booked up so a year advance is highly recommended
Are fishing permits refundable?
Unfortunately, fishing permits are not refundable once paid to the Uganda wildlife Authority however there is no big trouble since you can pay on the day of fishing and we strongly ask Anglers to book and pay all the services with Us and we shall take charge of the payments and should you not fish we shall refund you the fee for the fishing permit for that particular day
