Ruhija region gorilla safaris and holidays – Ruhija region is in the eastern side of Bwindi National Park and consists of 4 habituated families set for trekking and research; Bitukura, Kyaguliro (for research but usually trekked as well), Mukiza and Oruzogo.

The Ruhija sector is one of the rewarding sectors within the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest most famous for its abundant birdlife! The sector is considered the most remote sector of all the four sectors within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

There are four gorilla families in the ruhija sector and these include;

Oruzogo gorilla family

Gorilla Trekking in northern Bwindi (Buhoma Area)

32 permits available daily and 4 gorilla families in Ruhija, located approximately 90 minutes’ drive from Buhoma Lodge).
Maximum of 8 permits available per gorilla family
Minimum trekking age of 15 years
Trekking is steep, hot and strenuous at high altitude
Tracking gorilla families may take anything from 30 minutes, to three or five hours to locate
Once located, trekkers spend one hour observing them
