Uganda walking safaris – Many tourists prefer to combine walking safaris with other activities such as Gorilla trekking and game drives while in Uganda. Walking safaris have increasingly become a popular part of any safari package. If you wish to do some walking safari while in Uganda, the below should give you an idea and let us know if you are interested in one of them so that we help you plan accordingly.
You can combine your Gorilla trekking with a walking safari in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Uganda Wildlife Authority operates nature based walking safaris in Bwindi Forest and the most popular ones are located in different trail heads of Buhoma the northern sector, Ruhija the eastern sector, Rushaga and Nkuringo the southern. These forest walks expose you to the beauty of Bwindi forest where you will encounter other primates in this forest such as Black and white Colobus monkeys, unhabituated Chimpanzees, Bird species, Butterflies and waterfalls.
There are walking safari options to the community and one popular trail is the Buhoma Village walk that takes you to community farms to observe their agricultural practices, to the herbalist to establish how herbs are processed to cure some diseases, to a local brewing plant and then a visit to the home of the Batwa people (pygmies) who used to stay in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park before it was gazzatted as a National Park in early 1990’s. For adventurous and physically fit clients, we recommend the Nkuringo walking safari which starts from either Buhoma in the north or Nkuringo in the south. This walking safari takes you through the forest and lasts 2-3 hours depending on your pace. This trek is good for bird watchers, primate and nature loving clients who prefer to enjoy nature on foot. Please note that it’s better to start from Nkuringo to Buhoma due to the fact that you will be slopping instead of climbing.
Uganda walking safaris – Walking safaris are everywhere in Uganda and if in Kibale forest National Park, you can try out a forest walk in the National Park for bird watching and primate identification or join Bigodi wetland walk which was designed to support the local communities around Kibale Forest National Park. You can as well choose to go for a night nature walk also conducted in Kibale National Park. No matter where you will be visiting, we can advise where to do your walking Safari.
