The price or costs of filming permissions vary depending on what you want to film while others are constants as discussed below in this blog post.
Most costs for filming permits and permission in Uganda rotate around what you have to pay to get location permits, clearing in your filming equipment or hiring equipment, press accreditation, locational scouting, visa fees, transport and accommodation. Foreign Film Crews and journalists must pay a fee to Uganda Media Council in order to be accredited to film in any location in Uganda. The cost of one Media Card is now USD175 per person valid for one month. This fee goes directly to Uganda Media Council. The process of Press Accreditation takes 2-3 working days as long as you send us all paperwork required for this process.
A fee is paid to have your kit or filming equipment allowed into the country. This fee depends on the value of your filming equipment. The process and all paperwork takes 2-3 working days once we have your kit list showing type, serial number and value of your equipment in USD. Uganda is not a cannet free country and as such a fee must be paid to Uganda Customs and fixers to have your equipment cleared.
If you are interested in filming in Uganda National Park you must pay fees to Uganda Wildlife Authority who will in turn design for you and Memorandum of Understanding or a Filming Contract enabling you to film in any of the ten National Parks in Uganda. Uganda Wildlife Authority has general filming fees for all National Parks apart from filming the Mountain Gorillas and the Chimpanzees that attract an extra fee to film these popular primates.
Mountain Gorillas are found in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park while Chimpanzees are found in Kibale Forest National Park, Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park and Budongo Forest in Murchison Falls National Park.
Uganda has a variety of accommodation properties spread in different parts of the country. Lodges Camps and Hotels in Uganda can be categorized as Budget, Mid-range and Luxury Lodges. Accommodation rates range from USD50 for budget to up to USD350 per person in Luxury. Depending on what you are interested in filming, you may find yourself paying locational permits of which each defers from one to the other. Local village filming permits may vary from USD100 to USD300 for the whole shoot. As soon as we get where you want to film, we will contact the local authorities in such areas and advise how much you will have to pay.
To move from one location to another will require you to hire a vehicle and driver. Great Adventure Film Fixers and Great Adventure Safaris have a fleet of 4×4 Vans and Land cruisers ready for your filming project. A safari van with a driver/fixer goes for USD110 while Land Cruisers are at USD200 per day. These come with a drive but no fuel. The cost of fuel is normally estimated depending on the mileage covered.
Uganda has some people who can assist you in your shoot. Great Adventure Film Fixers Uganda works with a team of assistant producers and directors, sound directors, Drone pilots, assistant camera and others who can be hired to complement your team. The cost ranges from USD150-USD350 depending on the days of your shoot. The cost may go down or up.
