When to book gorilla habituation holiday in Uganda – Many travelers are interested in doing the Gorilla Habituation Experience in Uganda but they are still stack with the question of when to book a Gorilla Habituation Safari but Great Adventure Safaris is here to provide you with information about the when and how to book you Uganda Gorilla habituation Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
Gorilla habituation experience is done and carried out only in Rushaga and Nkuringo the southern Gorilla tracking sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park currently looking at two Gorilla families of Byikyingi and Bushaho. Gorilla habituation was introduced in 2014 by the Uganda Wildlife Authority to all interested parties to have a chance participate in the process.
Gorilla habituation refers to the process where an individual Gorilla family is followed and trained to get used to human being presence. The researchers together with the park rangers will choose a wild Gorilla group to habituate and this process usually takes about 2-3 years of constant habituating to ensure that they are ready to be tracked by visitors. During this time this Gorilla group is visited on a daily basis not until they get used to humans. Gorillas are wild animals and very unpredictable if not taken through a habituation process so during this time researchers use this opportunity to study about them as they collect samples and learn the behavior traits of each individual. Naming these Gorillas is normally done when the group is ready for tracking by the tourists. Always a test is put to them through a mocking exercise before opening it for tracking.
Only 4 visitors are allowed to participate in the habituation process to a particular Gorilla group per day per trek in company with a team of researchers and park rangers who will take them through the process of habituation where you are allowed to follow the wild Mountain Gorillas for four hours which start counting when you find the fresh trails of the Gorillas from where they would have nested the previous night. Please note that these semi-habituated Gorillas or Gorillas under habituation process are sometimes shy and elusive so they might decide to hide away from you to see them at a close distance. Great Adventure Safaris advise you to book your Habituation Gorilla permits in advance at list 3-4 months before your safari dates especially those looking at visiting in the drier months since they are of a limited number of only 4 permits per day. A Gorilla habituation permit costs USD1500 per person per trek. This permit allows you to track the Mountain Gorillas and follow them for 4 hours and it includes park entrance fees, ranger guide and security for your safety while in the forest.
Gorilla Habituation Experience can be booked at any time and the activity can be done all year round. Because these Gorillas are semi-habituated and very shy there is a limited number of 4 people and usually these people are with great admiration of the Gorillas, scientists or photographers. Gorilla habituation is best done during the dry season in the months of June, July, August, December, January and February. Please note that Bwindi National Park is a tropical rainforest and weather here is unpredictable so it can rain at any time. However, Gorilla habituation can be done in the rainy months thus this is less desirable as the Gorillas move a lot hence uncomfortable nature of terrine of Bwindi Forest comes into play and slippery grounds.
