Full day with chimpanzees of Kibale forest – Spending an hour with the Chimpanzees of Uganda is one experience, but to be with them all day long is a life time adventure.
Many tourists do not realize that they have a choice between Chimpanzee tracking and a Chimpanzee habituation experience. Tourists come to Uganda for the Mountain Gorilla tracking and Chimpanzee tracking. There are 4950 Chimpanzees in Uganda; Kibale Forest National Park has the most with almost 1500 Chimpanzees.
Most visitors trek the Chimpanzees of Kibale forest much like the Mountain Gorillas for one hour. There is however another option that allows you to be with Chimpanzees all day long in the forests of Budongo or Kibale Forests doing habituation experience the all day with the Chimpanzees in their natural home.
The Chimpanzee Habituation Experience is not for the faint of heart it means an early breakfast a packed lunch and you are off to the forest. You meet your ranger guide and you start your walk to the Chimpanzees before they start their day activities.
With your life time adventure, Chimpanzee Habituation Experience entails getting the Chimpanzee of Kibale forests used to the presence of humans (to make them get used and remove the fear of humans from them), a process that takes up to two years and today you are part of that process by your all day presence in the forest with the Chimpanzees. Some years back, it used to be a 20% chance of seeing the Chimpanzees in the wild, but today because of the habituation process it has increased to over 90%.
Your full day with your camera take quality pictures of the Chimpanzees as you learn more from their day activities and to identify them as individuals by their markings, sometimes scars and other unique features that make them stand apart from rest.
The day ends as the Chimpanzees climb into their newly built nests for their overnight and you head back to your Guest house/Lodge for your evening.
